How to Plan Your Destination Wedding

- Location The first part to planning your destination wedding is choosing a location. This can be based on a place that is special to you and your fiance, or a location you have been dreaming of.
- Guest list Think about who you will be inviting, if you plan on having your wedding in a location that requires flying will all your important guests be able to participate? Maybe you are choosing a location that will eliminate certain guests without you having to do the work. Either way, if you choose a place where guests have the option to drive or fly your guest list might be larger than if they only have the option to fly.
- Save the date cards After you have chosen your venue you will have to send out save the date cards. On these cards you will want to include certain details like hotel information, transportation, passport or visa information, and of course the date of the wedding.
- Wedding Guest Accommodations If your guests won't be able to stay at the venue provide them with details and information on hotels where they can stay.
- A site visit Will probably be necessary at least once before the wedding. Here you will do your tasting, choose flowers, linens, cake, and other details. At this point you might meet with the DJ or florist.
- Hiring Vendors Also keep in mind if you are planning a destination wedding you will be dependent on the venue and the vendors they provide. You will have to be more flexible and not expect to be in charge of all the little details, and if you were planning on a DIY this could be very challenging.
- Marriage license Make sure you know the local marriage requirements.
- Time of year Consider the time of year. Don't mess with hurricane season. High season at a tourist destination might be out of the budget.
- Events Plan events for the whole weekend not just the wedding day. Guests will treat this like a mini vacation so an itinerary is nice. A list of activities and places to see are a great way to bring everyone together.
